1. What types of organizations are eligible to apply as a host?

Cross-sectoral partnerships involving universities, school boards and/or community-based organizations with provincial reach, are invited to apply. Thematic knowledge networks should include a variety of partner organizations representing researchers, educators, community-based professionals, students and families. Examples of potential Network Host(s) and partner organizations include:

  • Institutes, associations and/or foundations
  • Universities and colleges
  • Non-profit organizations
  • Research organizations
  • Subject-relevant provincial organizations
  • Teacher associations
  • School boards
  • Professional organizations (involving e.g., directors, supervisory officers, and principals
  • Managing Information for Student Achievement Professional Network Centres
  • Licensed child care providers and early years professionals/organizations

2. How can I apply?

3. When is the deadline to submit applications?

The deadline to submit applications is 11:59 p.m. EST on June 12th, 2017.

4. What is the expected size of the grants for each network?

The Learning and Leading for Equity Knowledge Network will be funded at approximately $325,000 per fiscal year for an estimated total of $975,000 over three years. A minimum of $100,000 from this amount must be allocated for funding the activities of the communities of practice.

5. Can I still partner with a network if I am submitting my own an application as a network host

Yes, applicants may be a partner on other applications even when submitting their own proposal to host.

6. Can I partner on more than one proposal?

Yes, an organization may partner on more than one proposal. Upon the selection of the network and network host, further collaborations and partnerships may develop.

7. Can we list the partners and/or communities of practice that we are already working with in our application?

Yes, applicants may list existing partners and/or communities of practice in their proposals.

8. Is there a template for any of the various components of the proposal (i.e. budget, KMb plan, letters of support etc.).

The required elements of the proposal are described and identified in the call for proposals application guide. Applicants are encouraged to use their own templates as needed.

9. Can money from the grant be used to hire staff?

Costs that are reasonable and necessary for the successful administration of the network are admissible. Applicants are encouraged to include and indicate in-kind support and expected costs for staff time. Any funding requested for staff time will be subject to Ministry review and approval.

10. Are we expected to conduct research as part of the network activities?

No, primary research will not be funded through this agreement.

11. Are we expected to hire an evaluator?

Applicants are expected to engaging in ongoing self-assessment, monitoring and evaluation. The evaluation approach should include the systematic collection and analysis of evidence that may guide the network operations and activities.

The successful recipient will be expected to work collaboratively with an external evaluator who will be hired to evaluate KNAER.

12. Upon approval, how soon can networks begin activities and expect funding to flow?

The flow of funding depends on the time frame for establishing the host organization. In general, networks can begin activities as soon as the transfer payment agreement is initialized, approved and executed.

13. Is there a limit to the number of appendices/number of pages that can be attached as part of the application?

There is no prescribed limit to the number of appendices or number of pages for attachments in support of the application. It is up to the applicant to determine adequate evidence to support the required components of the proposal.
